It is with a heavy heart that I write this post as the sky now has another star that shines brightly in the night sky.
Talin Hawkins, just 13 weeks after his first diagnosis of a terminal brain tumor has been visited by the Angels to take his Spirit back home, to his true home. A place where he could create the flying house with animals and rainbows that he was dreaming of for the past 2 months.
In his short time with us Talin has touched so many people, and made such a difference in many people’s lives. Talin not only brought together an entire community, a state and a country, but Talin made us all realise how brave and strong our little ones really are. His courage and spirit through his entire journey is truly amazing as is his brave mum Cassandra for being so open about Talin’s struggle.
Such is the power and strength of Talin that with under 4 weeks of planning, the Talin’s Rose – Paddle for life event was organised, publicised and ended up having well over 200 people attend and 60 paddlers taking to the Harbour on Stand up paddle boards, kayaks, and skis to raise funds for Talin and other kids in a similar situation. I am proud to have come up with the idea, and even prouder of everyone who jumped on board to make it happen. It now looks like Talin’s Rose – Paddle for life will be an annual event to not only honour the memory of Talin Hawkins, but to raise money every year for kids who are courageously battling terminal illnesses.
Talin made me realise that my problems are insignificant compared to what he and his family were going through and my heart warms thinking about all the generous people who donated their time and money to not only help struggling families, but to raise awareness for places like Bear Cottage who truly do an amazing job.
Talin, thank you for your short time you spent in this realm, you have made a huge difference to the world and your legacy will live on. You are a true champion in every sense of the word and I wish you well on your journey. I hope that the Talin’s Rose – Paddle for life event grows each and every year and that through your inspiration, we can now continue to make a difference and share what you have started.
Rest in Peace little man.
